Scotland.org - Google Maps API

Scotland.org is the Scottish Government website. This work was actually implemented across three of the Scottish government sites - scotland.org, aboutscotland.in and scotland.cn.

The sites are all built in Expression Engine and the maps were built using the Google Maps API. The maps show where the Scottish universities are; you can click on them for their name and a link through to more information. All the information is on one page but make use of deep-linking so the visible information changes based on which link you clicked through from.

The map uses grouping to combine numerous markers within a certain radius of each other and using a marker with a plus sign to illustrate that there is more than one marker in that area. Clicking on a group marker zooms in to that area to reveal the individual markers.

This feature is different on the China site due to the ban on Google and also slow internet speeds. Therefore the map is a static graphic of Scotland.

The sites are responsive and therefore the maps and associated information on that page had to be also.

All work featured was carried out through my employment at Whitespace and as part of a project team.
